Staple-line reinforcement (SLR) has been a popular topic of discussion among experts in bariatric surgery. SLR includes buttressing with absorbable materials such as glycolide. Bleeding is an uncommon complication in bariatric surgery. The reported incidence ranges between 0% and 4.4% and varies according to the different procedures performed (gastric bypass (GBP), gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, and biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch). Bleeding after bariatric surgery can be classified based on time of onset (acute, early, late, and chronic) and based on bleeding site (intra-abdominal and intraluminal).
